Some club history about how we came to be
On an April evening in 1971, a few fellows got together with the idea of starting an area car club. The meeting took place at a local garage on Victory Street in the southern end of Mishawaka, Indiana. We were a young group, mostly in our early twenties, just starting on our street rods. There was also something else that we were starting besides a car club and that was our families. There were only about five or six of us for the first year, but still enough to decide on our club name and establish some rules and bylaws for the club.
Our original name was the St. Joe Valley Street Rod Association; but after a few years, it was changed to our present name of St. Joe Valley Street Rods.
When there were ten members, the club decided to recognize them as charter members. Three of those ten are still members of the club today.
Shortly after forming our club, we joined N.S.R.A who recognized us as one of their charter clubs. Some of our N.S.R.A. membership numbers were three digits. As a group we traveled to Detroit to attend the 1972 N.S.R.A street rod nationals and marveled at the 1500 or so cars that were there for the event.
Our club has participated in many activities over the years, but some of our favorite ones are those that benefited the community. We have been involved with the March of Dimes Walk, Camp Millhouse, and have worked to provide guidance to some area vocational centers.
Below are some of our club members street rods. We've participated in the 2009 ,2010 & 2011 Mishawaka, IN Memorial Day Parade.
This year, 2018 marks our clubs 47th Anniversary
